Where is West Egg?
'West Egg' is a fictitious place like Brigadoon and
Camelot. In his great American novel 'The Great Gatsby,'
author F. Scott Fitzgerald placed the extraordinary home of character
Jay Gatsby somewhere on Long Island in 'West Egg.'
Event At West Egg, Inc. is located faraway from Long Island,
New York, in Illinois.
Why 'West Egg'?
The Great Gatsby is a favorite novel that has stayed in my thoughts
from time to time, like 'Doctor Zhivago' and 'Out of Africa.'
When thinking of bridal purses and special event handbags, I couldn't
help imagining a night at Gatsby's, especially the exuberance
and the mystery. It would be like Oscar Night, the Fourth of July,
New Year's, Cinderella's Ball and the Cotton Club all wrapped
up into one. I just couldn't resist the creative energy an event
at the imaginary 'West Egg' evoked.
The History of Event At West Egg
Event At West Egg is proudly owned by designer Doreen Smith.
My company began after a conversation with a former colleague.
My friend excitedly told me about the plans for her son's
upcoming nuptials. Always a good planner, my friend already had
her Mother of the Groom dress more than half a year early.
As she described her crystal and medium blue dress in vivid detail,
I couldn't ignore the stress she felt as she described her
challenge to find suitable accessories to match:
"I didn't care for the accessories at the bridal shop,
and, when I go to my local department store, the colors hardly
match. I really don't want to wear beige because my shoes
are blue. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for the
bridesmaids to find the right accessories. Am I the only Mother
of the Groom to be going through this?"
Before we parted and I wished the happy new couple well, she
mentioned something that got my creative juices flowing: "I
wish there was a service I could call to help coordinate all of
this. Do you know where I could go?"
I do now.
